Art Statement
My art works are my personal physical abstract expressions capture my creative energy flow , inward feelings, concepts and ideas. I use straight ahead jazz music to infuse my spirit and free my creative mind to create my images.
When I start a piece I don’t have a plan or sketch. I just work to allow my” inner soul” as much as possible to take over my esthetic, my thinking, my brush stokes, marks, color selections, textures and balance. I seek to have my spirit be in control as much as possible so I don’t over think what I am creating . That is the fun part of my process. I usually start with strong bold strokes of paint or by using mixed media materials as a base then I work with layering and layering of paint washes until the final desired image appears. I never know where I will stop. There does come a time when my dance with the piece finishes. When the piece shouts to me “ I am what I want to be” visually and my visual response back has no more voice. That’s when I know I am done and the piece is finished---
My inspiration comes from everywhere. It might be the sound of Coltrane’s sax, Mile’s horn or image compositions that I have locked in my mind while walking around. These inspirational images are mixed with various application processes of layering spontaneously my paint strokes.
I like to work in open free spaces and places where I am not inhibited in my thoughts, ideas or approach the execution of a piece.
